IRS Problem Resolution

A levy takes the money. We stop it.

The IRS levies bank accounts, garnishes wages, and seizes 1099 payments to collect unpaid taxes. Stopping a levy is usually possible within days of engaging us — but the clock matters.

In short

An IRS levy is the actual taking of your money or property — a bank account is frozen, wages are garnished, or 1099 payments are intercepted. Stopping a levy requires immediate action: establish Power of Attorney, file any missing returns, propose a resolution path, and request levy release. We resolve most levy cases within 7-14 days.

Common levy types

  • Bank account levy — IRS freezes funds in your account; bank holds 21 days then remits to IRS
  • Wage garnishment — employer is ordered to send a portion of your paycheck directly to IRS
  • 1099 levy — your business clients/payers are ordered to send their payments to IRS instead of you
  • Social Security levy — up to 15% of monthly benefit
  • Retirement account levy — rare but possible

How to stop a levy

A levy can be released if you (a) establish a resolution path (installment agreement, OIC, CNC), (b) prove economic hardship, or (c) show the levy is procedurally improper (e.g., the IRS skipped required notices). We pursue whichever path applies fastest.

After the levy is released

Releasing a levy doesn't resolve the underlying tax debt — it stops the collection action. We then negotiate a permanent resolution (installment, OIC, etc.) so a new levy doesn't restart in 30 days.
